What is a perfume?

Perfume is a mixture of fragrant oils, aromatic mixtures and various chemical substances to scent the human body, various objects and environments.

Essences are essential oils obtained from flowers and fragrant plants by distillation and pressing.

Depending on the concentration of fragrances within a mixture, a distinction is made between the following dilution classes:

  • Extrait de Parfum: 20-40% essence (fragrance oil)
  • Eau de Parfum (EdP): 10-30% essence (fragrance oil)
  • Eau de Toilette (EdT): 5-20% essence (fragrance oil)
  • Eau de Cologne (EdC): 2-5% essence (fragrance oil)
  • Splash Parfums (EdS): ~1% Essence (Fragrance Oil)

The term notes in perfumes:

The scent notes of a perfume can consist of different phases of dispersion. These phases are called notes. There are 3 grades. These are the top note, heart note, base note.

The top note becomes noticeable after applying the perfume and consists of the most volatile essences. It will be lost within 2-5 minutes.

The heart note is the most important part and is therefore called the heart note. It determines the character of the perfume. The most obvious form first appears on the skin and is usually persistent for 20 minutes.

The base note is the final part of the fragrance process. This part is the expression of true personality, perseverance and success. The durability of the perfume used varies depending on the concentration (approx. 6-8 hours).

To get a successful product, there must be a harmonious transition between the notes.
